We evaluated the commercial potential of a novel 3D printing technology for the manufacture of patient specific medical devices.
A client had developed a novel 3D printing technology for printing a two-component biocompatible polymer that is widely used in the manufacture of medical devices, but is currently cast or extruded rather than printed. The client believed that the novel technology had a particular application to the manufacture of patient specific medical devices. We were asked to provide medical device consultancy to identify and assess potential applications for the technology which ranged from patient specific: hearing aids, face masks, cardiovascular stents, airways stents, and facial prostheses. Having identified the most attractive opportunities we wrote a commercial development plan that included an assessment of the market opportunity, the development of a regulatory and market access strategy, and a consideration of the investment required to reach important value inflection points on the path to market.
We are a specialist medical device consultancy consisting of industry experts with long and successful track records in commercialising medical device products. We have broad functional and sector experience, and would welcome an opportunity to discuss with you any challenge relating to creating sustainable value from medical technologies.
